What you are looking at
A cross-hipped roof has hips going in several directions. In this photo they meet at a few clean points over the middle of the house.
Driftwood is a soft, warm gray-brown. It blends with the lawn and the tan exterior of the neighboring homes, so the house looks settled rather than flashy.
The rear deck sits right below the lowest roof plane, so the edge of the roof is easy to see from the yard. That edge is straight and even all the way across.
