What we know about Hudson roofs

Census estimates put Hudson's median home at 1983. About 61 percent of homes went up in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, so many roofs here may already have been replaced at least once.

Tornado-strength wind can lift and crease shingles without tearing them off. A roof that came through the 2024 storms looking fine may have broken seals that only show in close-up photos.

Hudson's historic village homes and its newer subdivisions need very different roofs. An older home near the green may have steep pitches and chimneys that need careful flashing, while a home in a newer subdivision often has simpler slopes. Tell us your street when you book, and we'll know what to bring.

On the roofs our crews see here: mostly architectural asphalt shingles, 6/12 to 8/12 pitch, one layer.

On August 6, 2024, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado path from Richfield to Boston in Summit County, just west of Hudson. During the April 15, 2026 storms, hail up to 1.75 inches fell in Cuyahoga County to the north.

Hudson's Community Development office is at 1140 Terex Rd (330-342-1790). Outside the Historic District, replacing asphalt shingles needs no city zoning certificate. Inside the Historic District, shingle replacement goes to the Architectural and Historic Board of Review before work starts. Building permits come from the Summit County Department of Building Standards, 1030 E Tallmadge Ave, Akron (330-630-7280).
